The route of the underground cable from Ballaghaderreen to Ballina , that will provide the new 110KV electricity line into this region, is being finalised by Eirgrid, at present.

The company, after extensive public consultation, decided to run the 60km long cable underground, as distinct from an overhead line.

The new circuit that will enhance electricity supply into this region, and accommodate renewable energy to the national grid, will run from the Moy substation in Ballina to Tonroe substation outside Ballaghaderreen.

Eirgrid hopes to have its planning application for the project submitted by the end of this year, and all going to plan, will start construction on the underground cable in 2023.
