The route of the underground cable from Ballaghaderreen to Ballina , that will provide the new 110KV electricity line into this region, is at present being finalised by Eirgrid.
The company, after extensive public consultation, decided to run the 60km long cable underground, as distinct from an overhead line.
The new circuit that will enhance electricity supply into this region, and accommodate renewable energy to the national grid, will run from the Moy substation in Ballina to Tonroe substation outside Ballaghaderreen.
Eirgrid hopes to have it’s planning application for the project submitted by the end of this year, and all going to plan, will start construction on the underground cable in 2023.
An information evening will be held this evening, (September 23) via Zoom (7pm), to inform communities and stakeholders about the Community Forum that will be established.
People can still join this evening’s information evening by registering online until 4pm at www.eirgrid.com/NorthConnachtproject or ring Eoghan O’Sulliven – 087 247 7732
