Tributes are continuing following the death of Steve Dunford of Killala, and formerly of Castlebar and Dublin.

Mr Dunford - a musician, author, artist, poet and historian who also worked in television and film - passed away on Saturday following an illness.

A native of Marion Row in Castlebar, Steve lived in Killala where he was involved in commemorations to mark General Humbert's invasion of Mayo in 1798.

He was the author and illustrator of a number of books, and a founder member with Mary Black of the 1970's traditional band General Humbert.

Steve worked as a musician, producer and promoter with many well-known artists including Sharon Shannon, Declan O'Rourke, Dolores Keane, Jim McCann, Brian Kennedy and Luka Bloom.

This lunchtime, Mayo Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary has paid tribute to the late Steve Dunford-  or General Dunford - and says he was one of those people who made our world such a better place....

Mr Dunford's remains are reposing at Lynn’s Funeral Home in Killala from 5 to 7pm this evening.

The funeral cortege will leave his home at 12.45pm tomorrow for a service of remembrance at 1pm in St. Patrick’s Church, Killala.
