It's disappointing that Irish Water declined an invitation to appear before this month's meeting of Mayo County Council to discuss the proposed increase in water charges for non-domestic customers.
That's according to Ballinrobe-based FF Councillor Damien Ryan who says Irish Water should now be brought before an Oireachtas Committee to answer to our national politicians.
The new charges for non-domestic customers are due to be introduced from the 1st October, which will impact on about 10,000 customers in Mayo.
Some will see increases in their water bill, while others will see a decrease.
However, Councillor Damien Ryan says he knows of one business that's facing an increase of over €20,000 per year, and he believes there should be a longer lead-in time.
