Ireland has the highest rate of Covid 19 in the EU, with just over 500 cases per 100,00o people, just ahead of Cyprus at 496.
Yesterday the Dept of Health confirmed a further 1,751 new cases of the virus in the Republic.
Galway and Sligo University Hospitals continue to treat a high number of covid positive patients.
According to the latest HSE data, Galway University Hospital has the second highest number of patients with the virus nationally, at 34. While Sligo university Hospital is the fourth highest, treating 23 patients with Covid 19.
Mayo University Hospital now has 8 patients with the virus, while there are 3 covid positive patients at Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe.
There are also a high number of patients on trolleys waiting for admission to Galway University Hospital today.
According to the INMO Trolley Watch figures, there are 38 patients waiting for admission to the Galway hospital. That’s the third highest figure nationally.
There are no patients on trolleys waiting for admission to Mayo University Hospital today, 5 at Portiuncula University Hospital and 8 at Sligo University Hospital.
Nationally there are 283 patients on trolleys waiting for hospital admissions.
