The proposed development of a new 3G synthetic grass pitch, floodlight system and fencing at the GMIT Mayo Campus has moved to tender, according to deputy Alan Dillon.

The Fine Gael TD said it will be of enormous benefit to the Mayo Campus of GMIT and surrounding clubs.

The proposed development will include a full-sized all-weather 3G playing pitch tested to the highest IRFU / World Rugby and FIFA standards to allow competitive games to be played on it.

In 2019, €225,000 in regional sports capital funding was awarded to GMIT for this project by the then Fine Gael Minister for Sport Brendan Griffin TD.

Deputy Dillon says the project will compliment the Lough Lannagh sporting centre of excellence and help support increased levels of participation within rugby and soccer.
