As the government looks set to announce shortly, that from next month, up to 100 guests can be accommodated at a wedding reception, an anomaly remains for couples that want a church ceremony, as only 50 guests can be accommodated under the present Covid restrictions in many churches across the region at present.
Fr John Kenny is the Parish Priest of Partry, and he says as of today, there has been no signal from government, that the size of congregations can increase.
Nonetheless, he believes that brides and grooms will welcome the additional guest numbers at wedding receptions and he says there will be options around the church ceremony.
Couples may have to extend a church invitation to just half of the wedding party, or they may decide to try and move the church ceremony to a larger church that can accommodate 2 pods of 50, a total of 100 people. There is also the option of linking into the church ceremony online.
Fr Kenny has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about the anomaly that allows 100 people to gather at a reception for an extended period but prohibits the gathering of more than 50 people in most of our churches due to Covid concerns.
