A Ballina GP has begun his ascent of Croagh Patrick to offer medical assistance to climbers, ahead of the traditional Reek Sunday Pilgrimage tomorrow.
Dr. Scott Walkin of the Moy View Family Practice in Ballina will assist the reduced emergency service personnel on the west Mayo mountain over the course of this evening and on Sunday.
The annual Pilgrimage at Murrisk, which was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been going ahead this year in an extended format throughout the month.
Masses have been held on the Holy Mountain from Wednesday to Saturday throughout July, instead of the traditional focus on the last Sunday of the month, Reek Sunday.
Dr Scott Walkin has been telling Midwest News about how best to prepare before climbing Croagh Patrick tomorrow.
