Mayo County Council's Chief Executive Kevin Kelly is meeting with Mayo GAA chiefs this week, to discuss concerns over the delay in the proposed Centre of Excellence in Castlebar.

Almost three years ago, the GAA announced plans for a Centre of Excellence, having acquired 27 acres of land at Lough Lannagh.

It would include a training centre with 3 pitches, as well as providing facilities for high-performing teams.

However, the lack of progress on the development is causing concern among local councillors.

The issue was raised again at this month's meeting of Mayo County Council by Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, who was told the Chief Executive would be meeting this week with GAA officials to discuss the project, and would provide a report on the matter for the September meeting of the authority.

Speaking with Paula Donnellan, Councillor Kilcoyne said he's anxious to see this project progress.
