Yesterday marked the 41st anniversary of the deaths of two Gardai in the line of duty in Co Roscommon.
On 7th July 1980, Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne, who were stationed in Castlerea, were shot dead near Loughlynn while responding to a bank robbery in Ballaghadereen.
A wreath-laying ceremony took place yesterday at the memorial to the fallen Gardai at Shannons Cross near Loughlynn .
The widows of both men - Frances Morley and Anne Byrne - were in attendance, along with present and retired members of An Garda Siochana.
Both Gardai were natives of Knock, Co Mayo.
