Funding of over €1.1 million has been allocated for road improvement measures across Co Mayo, where severe weather events have damaged local and regional roads.
It will allow for flood alleviation measures, bridge repairs, road protection works and the replacement of sea walls at 38 locations across Co Mayo.
The separate allocations have made for roads in the Crossmolina area damaged by floods, with funding also for roads in the Snugboro, Islandeady and Garryduff areas of Castlebar, and a number of roads in south Mayo are also included for funding for drainage works and to raise the level of the roads following severe flooding events.
Meanwhile, a separate allocation of €400,000 has been made for renovations to the sea wall at Bundola, Belmullet.
The road at the seawall is often closed, due to flooding at high tide and it's hoped the renovation works will prevent the access road from being closed in the future due to flooding.
Belmullet-based Councillor Gerry Coyle says it's welcome news for the people of Erris, but says the €400,000 allocated today will not be enough to complete the works....
