A local MEP is urging the Government to prepare for the introduction of the EU COVID Certificate as soon as possible.
MEP for Midlands North-West Maria Walsh welcomed its' approval following discussions on Thursday last.
The EU says if a member state is not ready to issue certificates in the new format by the 1st of July, it will have six weeks from that date to introduce the new certificate format
The Fine Gael MEP says the certificate will be important to the tourism and travel sector in the west of Ireland, which depends on the international market.
The Mayo-based politician added that it will ensure EU citizens can exercise their right to freedom of movement.
Maria Walsh told Midwest News that she believes mandatory hotel quarantine hasn’t worked.
