Two temporary Covid-19 test facilities are opening in county Mayo this week.

A walk-in centre is opening at MacHale Park in Castlebar later this morning, and will operate alongside the existing referral centre, for seven days, after which time its use will be reviewed.

The facility will be open from 10am to 5pm daily and from 9am to 12 noon on Sunday the 9th of May.

A second pop up centre will open in Ballina from Wednesday until Friday in a bid to tackle a large outbreak in the area.

It will be located at the Ballina Stephenites GAA Ground and opens from 11am until 5pm.

These walk in Covid testing facilities allow people to get tested for the virus without the need for an appointment.

People attending must be over 16, not have symptoms of the virus and have not tested positive in the past six months.

Attendees will be asked to provide photo ID and a mobile phone number.

Niamh O’Beirne, HSE National Lead Test and Trace said that availing of a test, even without symptoms of the virus, helps to stop the spread of Covid-19 and protect our communities.

They will also help to indentify and understand any variants of concern.
