A person who went camping at the Twelve Bens in Galway overnight on Sunday was rescued by local mountain rescue teams yesterday.

Galway and Mayo Mountain Rescue Teams responded to a call for assistance in the South Bens, at Derry Clare.

The camper had become stuck due to the deteriorating weather conditions on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team were initially put on standby by Galway MRT to assist in the search for the missing person.

This was escalated into a full team call at 3pm yesterday afternoon. 

Multiple hill parties were deployed as part of the search operation

A short time later the missing person was located safe and well and the team was stood down.

The Rescue 118 helicopter was also en-route to assist in the search, but returned to base after they were located.
