New legislation to reform the Fair Deal nursing home scheme has been drafted and is due to go before the Cabinet in the next two weeks.
That's according to Minister of State Mary Butler, who was responding to a question in the Seanad this morning from Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers.
Senator Chambers had asked for an update from the Minster on the long-awaited new Bill, which will ease the financial burden for farmers and small business owners, and will put a cap on how much they have to contribute towards nursing home costs.
Currently, farm families and small business owners have to set aside 7.5% of the value of their land annually to fund a place in a nursing home, with no cap on contributions.
