Gardaí are investigating the discovery of apparent human remains in Galway Bay.
The body was taken from the water in Mutton Island Causeway area of Grattan Park at approximately 3.20pm yesterday afternoon.
The Galway RNLI, Gardai and a crew from the Galway Fire Brigade attended the scene.
The remains have been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a post mortem will be conducted shortly.
The results of this post mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
The remains have not been identified at this time and Midwest News understands that the body may have been in the water for some time.
Gardaí say investigations into this matter are continuing.
