The Government should communicate numerous options on the return of on-site learning at higher education institutes depending on the progress of the vaccine rollout.

That’s the call coming from the President of NUI Galway’s Students Union Padraic Toomey.

He was reacting to news that Covid-19 outbreaks among students may negatively impact on-campus learning in the next academic year.

This was discussed between the Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris and university chiefs in mid-February.

The NUIG SU President says students had gotten accommodation last year only to be told a week before college that they would be learning remotely.

Padraic Toomey told Midwest News that students are getting a lot of ‘mixed messaging’ from the Government and now need clarity.
