A number of programmes with Mayo connections have been nominated for the inaugural Royal Television Society  awards.

Westport production company Lunar Pictures has been nominated for its locally-shot production "Is Olc an Ghaoth", which was filmed in and around Achill between lockdowns last year.

The series of three interwoven films show a moving tale of life and death during Covid-19, and were broadcast on TG4 last November.

The production is nominated in the Drama Category with two other nominees - including Normal People, based on the novel by Castlebar author Sally Rooney.

Is Olc an Gaoth is one of five nominations for TG4 in the RTS Ireland Television Awards.

And a programme featuring Ballina undertaken David McGowan has also been nominated.

"The Funeral Director", produced by Mayo company GMarsh TV Productions, and is shortlisted in the Specialist Factual category.

The awards aim to give recognition to the Irish TV industry for achievements and excellence in creative production, and the winners across 9 categories will be announced on Virgin Media One next Tuesday night at 11pm.
