Sixteen swimming pools in Mayo have been awarded grants today, in the second phase of the Covid-19 swimming pool grant scheme, to help maintain pools while closed.
Sport Ireland, which administers the scheme, has announced total funding of €700,000, as pools remain closed under level 5 restrictions.
Today's announcement includes funding for Ballina swimming pool, Beech Health Club & Spa at the Westport Woods Hotel, Breaffy Leisure Centre, the Castle Leisure Club and Lough Lannagh pool in Castlebar, Claremorris leisure centre and the Evolve Health and fitness club in Claremorris, the Castle Leisure Club at the Castlecourt Hotel, the leisure centre at Great National Hotel, Ballina and Mount Falcon in Ballina; Kilmovee swimming pool, the Mulranny Park Hotel,Ocean Spirit Leisure at Hotel Westport, Spa Salveo at Knockranny House Hotel, Westport Coast Hotel and Westport Leisure Park.
The grant amounts vary between €1,500 and €3,500, with almost €35,000 in total being allocated to Co Mayo.
This is in addition to over €111,000 announced last December under the first phase of the scheme, according to Mayo FG Deputy Michael Ring, who says the funding will help provide stability to the sector.
