Anyone not happy with how any particular pub operated in the run up to Christmas should not frequent the premises when it re-opens, according to the Chairman of the Mayo branch of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, Alan Gielty.
He believes that it will be May, at the earliest, before pubs re-open under present restrictions.
Alan, of Gielty’s Pub and Restaurant Achill, says publicans would prefer to wait until May, if that’s what is required, in the interest of public health.
Nonetheless, he says morale is low among publicans and business people generally because of the ongoing uncertainty about re-opening and their futures.
Alan accepts that some publicans may have flouted the Covid regulations in the run up to Christmas, but insists most publicans were compliant.
He gave Midwest News his reaction today to yesterday’s further extension of Level 5 Restrictions out until the 5th of March.
