A Castlebar based Councillor has called on all construction site operators who have to close sites from this evening due to new Covid restrictions to ensure that these sites are fully secured from a health and safety perspective.
Fine Gael Councillor Ger Deere said if these sites are not properly sealed-off it could lead to children entering these sites unsupervised.
Cllr Deere told Midwest News today that during the first lockdown last March this was a serious issue and is appealing to all involved on these sites to make them safe and to monitor them on a regular basis.
Between 55,000 and 80,000 people will be laid off today nationally when the construction sector shuts down for over three weeks.
From 6 o'clock this evening, the government's forcing building sites to close until at least the end of the month.
A limited number of essential projects will be allowed to stay open, including some health and social housing work.
