Today was a historic day for Galway County Council, as the local authority held its first online meeting.
The meeting of the county's 39 councillors, executive, staff and members of the media was held online, to consider issues pertaining to the new County Development Plan.
Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council James Charity says that, in the context of rising Covid-19 cases across Galway and the country, it's important that the local authority lead by example is doing as much of its business remotely and online as is possible.
Councillor Charity is also calling on people across Co Galway to continue to limit their contacts and stay at home in so far as possible.
He's also appealing to employers to permit staff, where possible, to work remotely throughout January in the wider interests of public health and safety.
