Some students were sent home with books yesterday in case schools are forced to close in January.
The Irish Independent reports a number of schools took the precaution to ensure pupils are set up for remote learning after Christmas, if necessary.
The Department of Education has not issued any advice to the country's 4,000 schools to make any contingency plans.
The Government has said schools will reopen on January 6th - however the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said there is "no guarantee" it will happen.
There have been calls for schools to go back later than planned after the holidays, due to the surge of Covid-19 cases.
