There are plans in place to locate a modular unit to the rear of Ballina District Hospital to address infrastructural issues with the present multi occupancy wards and sanitary facilities in the building.

However, the plan is awaiting approval  and will not materialize unless funding is found for the development.

This situation was outlined by the Chief Officer, Community Healthcare West, Breda-Crehan Roche to councillors at a recent HSE West Forum meeting.

Ballina Fine Gael councillor John O’Hara had submitted a written question to the HSE explaining that it was generally rumoured that a modular build was to be located at the hospital site and he wanted to know what the plan was for the unit if it is installed.
