There are not enough gardai on the ground in East Mayo, that’s the view of Mayo Fianna Fail deputy Dara Calleary and he raised his concerns at yesterday’s county Joint Policing Committee.

The deputy says that the lack of community gardai in towns like Swinford, Charlestown, Foxford, Kiltimagh and Ballyhaunis has been an issue for local communities for some time now.

He, and his party colleague cllr Michael Smyth insist that there is a need for better community policing in the Swinford electoral area and designated opening hours where the public can attend a garda station are also required.
