A Ballina area Councillor is calling on Eirgrid to go underground with their power line project that will run from Ballina to Ballaghaderreen.
FG Cllr. John O'Hara says he has contacted Eirgrid and Mayo County Council to go for a 220kv power line instead of the 110kv option.
He raised his proposal at yesterday's meeting of Ballina Municipal District and got unanimous support from his council colleagues.
Eirgrid is currently considering 7 different route corridor options, four of these involve overhead lines, and 3 would be underground cable.
The public consultation phase of the North Connacht 110 KV project is underway, and Eirgrid have extended the deadline for submissions from the public until 11th December.
Cllr. O'Hara told Midwest News that it would be better for the environment, and visually, if the project goes underground..
