24 star Elisha Cuthbert has been cast opposite Dublin actor Eoin Macken in the Irish horror movie The Cellar, which begins filming in Co Roscommon this month.

The Cellar is the new film from writer-director Brendan Muldowney, whose previous credits include Pilgrimage, Love Eternal and Savage.

Billed as "the darkest" of nightmares, The Cellar tells the story of Keira Woods, a mother who must confront an ancient force when her daughter disappears in the family's new home.

The Cellar is due in Irish cinemas next year and is backed by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

Elisha Cuthbert, who played Kim Bauer in 24, can currently be seen in the Netflix series The Ranch. Her other credits include Happy Endings and the films House of Wax and The Girl Next Door.

Eoin Macken has starred in the US medical drama series The Night Shift, BBC's Merlin and the acclaimed Irish horror The Hole in the Ground.
