Mayo County Councillor Patsy O'Brien has been expelled from the Fine Gael party.
The Robeen-based Councillor had previously been suspended from the party last March, pending an investigation by FG into an allegation made against him.
Mr O'Brien subsequently contested the Seanad elections as an Independent candidate, but was unsuccessful.
This evening, a spokesman for the Fine Gael party confirmed to Midwest News that, following the completion of the disciplinary process as set out in Fine Gael's constitution and rules, Councillor Patsy O'Brien has been expelled from membership of the party.
The spokesman said Fine Gael would not be making any further comment on the matter.
Midwest News has also contacted Patsy O'Brien for his reaction, and we're awaiting a response.
