A petition demanding survivors who testified to the Mother and Baby Homes Commission be given copies of their records has gathered over 118,000 signatures.

It follows an outcry over a records bill passed earlier this week which sends a database it creates to Tusla, and leaves the rest in the custody of the Department of Children.

Minister Roderic O'Gorman said the question of access to records will be decided at a future date after refusing to accept a series of opposition amendments to the bill.
