The Government has agreed to introduce a new graduated system of fines for people breaching the level 5 restrictions.

The fines will apply to those organising or attending house parties, and also to those who travel outside the 5km limit from their homes, without an essential reason for doing so.

However, former Minister for Rural Development, Mayo TD Michael Ring told the FG parliamentary party last night that he would not support fining people in rural Ireland for travelling outside the 5 kilometre limit.

Speaking to Midwest News today, Deputy Ring said he will not be voting for this measure tomorrow, and he also believes introducing level 5  restrictions was a step too far.
