Teachers want schools to remain open as Covid Restrictions look set to increase later today, but not at any cost, that’s according to ASTI representative for second level schools in Galway, Tuam and east Galway, Ritchie Bell.
While the TUI, representing second and third level teachers, has today called for clarity on what Level 4 and Level 5 could mean for schools.
Classrooms are generally crowded locations where maintaining social distancing is difficult and Mr Bell says as long as teachers are given the appropriate and additional resources to make classrooms a safe environment, everyone wants schools to stay open, however, staying opens impacts on students, school staff and the communities in which these students and staff live.
Speaking to Midwest News today Ritchie said that it is of concern, that the increase and significant growth in cases of the virus. coincides with the re-opening of schools since last month.
