Mayo county councillors have called for a special meeting of the authority to discuss developments at the Castlebar campus of GMIT.
It follows the recent announcement that Business Dept at the Castlebar campus of GMIT is to close.
GMIT Mayo campus business staff were issued with letters two weeks ago, stating the business department at the Castlebar campus was to close and advising them to now report to the Galway campus.
At this week’s monthly meeting of Mayo county council a number of councillor’s accused GMIT of a bias against the Castlebar campus of the college, resulting in a reduction of full time undergraduate courses at the facility.
Ballina based Independent councillor Mark Duffy is a Business graduate of GMIT and a former Student Union President at the Castlebar campus and he’s been telling Midwest News why he believes that there is a bias by the college authority in favour of developments in Galway rather than Castlebar.
