Galway Independent Senator Rónán Mullen has criticised restrictions on public worship as Level 3 Covid Restrictions are now in operation nationwide.
Speaking in the Seanad earlier this week, the Senator Mullen said he questions the lack of discernment around the restrictions being placed on public worship. Arguing that the people who are attending churches primarily are a demographic who are highly compliant, with remarkable attention to detail in terms of sanitising in churches before and after services.
Speaking to Midwest news today he called for a re-think on putting all church services back on line.
While Senator Mullen supports having garda static checkpoints to ask people where they are going and why. It’s another thing to use checkpoints as a means of delaying people, as a means of obstructing people - hitting people who have a legitimate reason for travelling.
He claims its wrong to use the Gardai as an obstructer of people going about their business. “It reminds me of the Chinese government staging traffic disruptions to prevent journalists accessing detention centres in Xinjiang.” He claimed in the Seanad.
