A Mayo company had power tools worth about €14,000 stolen from vans last week.

The theft occurred between 9 and 11pm last Wednesday night in Co Kildare.

The vans belong to the Big Red Barn - an East Mayo company that also manufactures and installs a range of modular homes and structures.

Owner Donal Byrne has confirmed that they were fitting a home in the Naas area and were staying in a nearby hotel in Clane.

The vans were parked under the CCTV cameras in the hotel carpark, and Mr Byrne says that, between 9 and 11pm, thieves travelling in a silver Audi estate cut a hole in the sliding door of one van, popped open the lock and stole the contents.

They also managed to undo the lock on a second van and took tools from that vehicle also.

Donal Byrne told Midwest News that it took less than 10 minutes to empty the vans, and the tools stolen were worth in the region of €14,000 .

Gardai in Co Kildare are investigating the incident.
