Large house parties are ‘an ongoing theme’ in Galway City despite current public health advice.
That’s according to Fine Gael Councillor Eddie Hoare, who says the trend was a big concern during a pandemic when the public are being urged to limit social contacts.
Chief Superintendent of Galway Tom Curley told councillors last week that gardaí received 1,034 calls relating to house gatherings between the 18th of March and the 1st of September.
Cllr Hoare is calling for legislation on either a temporary or permanent basis to grant gardaí powers to shut these parties down.
He told Midwest News that sanctions must be imposed on landlords for breaches in Covid-19 guidelines on their property.
