A lone hiker who got into difficulty in west Galway was safely rescued off a mountain on Saturday in poor weather conditions.
Galway Mountain Rescue team was deployed to Benbreen in the 12 Bens mountain range shortly after 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon following a request from Gardaí.
A rapid response climbing party made their way to the hiker over the course of the evening.
The lone hiker was discovered close to the summit of Benbreen uninjured at around 8pm and was treated for exposure at the scene before being evacuated off the mountain shortly before 10pm.
Galway Mountain Rescue says it strongly recommends that due consideration is always given to weather forecasts and routes planning prior to embarking on such a hike.
