A number of areas of Achill Island are without water supplies today.
On Friday last, Irish Water lifted the Do Not Consume notice on the Achill water supply, which meant the tap water was again safe to drink.
However, a number of islanders have turned on the taps today to find no water.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor Paul MacNamara says the remedial works carried out on the island's plant have impacted on the water output, and the plant cannot meet current demand - even though demand for water has fallen as most holidaymakers have left the island.
Councillor MacNamara says tankers are on their way back to the island to refill the reservoirs, but some areas will be without water for up to 3 days, which he says is unacceptable.
Irish Water says they've advised customers in Achill that they may experience some outages, as reservoirs recover following an extensive cleaning programme involving all 18 reservoirs on theisland.
This was part of the emergency works taken by Irish Water and Mayo Co Co to enable the Do Not Consume notice that was in place since early August to be lifted last Friday.
Irish Water is thanking customers for their patients which the reservoirs refill and supply returns to normal, and is asking people to continue conserving water during this time.
