The heavy rainfall overnight and this morning is causing problems for motorists in some areas of the West.

Mayo County Council has received some reports of localised spot flooding, while there's a tree down on the Derrywash road in Castlebar.

And a number of roads in Connemara are impassable this morning, following heavy rainfall overnight. 

Gardaí say part of the N59 road from Maam Cross to Recess is flooded, with flooding also reported around Kylemore. 

Fire service personnel have been evacuating in the Clifden Glen estate in Clifden, as the river overflowed. 

Met Eireann has upgraded its status yellow rainfall warning to cover all of the Connacht counties, as well as Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The forecaster is warning of further falls of heavy rain today with localised flooding and hazardous weather conditions.

The warning remains in place until 9pm tonight.
