A Galway City Councillor has condemned a suspected arson attack on a council property in Carnmore.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident which resulted in significant damage to a house at 5am yesterday morning.
The four-bedroom house was set to house a Traveller family who previously lived on the Carrabrowne halting site on the Headford Road.
Fire crews were impeded in gaining access to the property because a number of plastic-wrapped bales had been placed to block the entrance to the driveway.
Galway City Councillor, Labour’s Neil McNeilis says the suspected arson attack is ‘100 steps back in time’.
