Community centres in Mayo will benefit from nearly €170,000 for their premises and facilities.

It's part of €5m funding for the centres nationally under the July stimulus package announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The funding will be provided under the Community Enhancement Programme and is in addition to €2m provided under the programme earlier this year.

Local Authorities will be allocated the funds and they will be administered by the Local Community Development Committee to ensure decisions best reflect the needs of given areas.

Mayo receives €168,000 under the initiative, Galway County gets €160,000, Galway City benefits from €109,000, Roscommon has been given €113,000, Sligo obtains €117,000 and there's €94,000 provided for Leitrim.
