The Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien has this evening officially launched the new Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme for Mayo and Donegal - even though the scheme is already open for applications since the end of June.
Minister O'Brien said he's glad the scheme is now up and running, to assist the families who've been affected by pyrite and mica in the two counties.
The Government has provided €20 million for the scheme in 2020, which will be administered by Mayo and Donegal County Councils, and details of the scheme are available on their respective websites.
Several hundred homes across Co Mayo were found to have been damaged by pyrite.
The scheme offers five remedial options, and separate grant limits apply to each option - ranging from €247,500 for the complete demolition and rebuilding of a house, to €49,500 for the rebuilding of the outer leaf of the affected walls.
Minister Darragh O'Brien urged homeowners affected by the defective concrete blocks to get their applications in as soon as possible.
