The remaining funding has been approved for the delivery of a re-imagined programme of events for the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture today.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht Catherine Martin for the event which will run in early 2021.
The focus of the re-imagined programme is primarily on the local and national artists from the programme that won Galway 2020 the European Capital of Culture designation for 2020.
Ensuring that these projects could be delivered, to help sustain the local cultural economy in light of the devastating impact of Covid 19 on the sector, has been the priority for Galway 2020.
The announcement follows extensive discussions among the Department of Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht, the EU Commission and Galway 2020 team.
Full details of the programme will be announced in due course.
