A ceremony will take place in Co Roscommon this afternoon to mark the 40th anniversary of the fatal shooting of two Gardai near Loughglynn.
Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne - both from Knock - lost their lives at Shannon's Cross on 7th July 1980, after responding to a call about a bank robbery in Ballaghadereen.
The Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is among those attending today's ceremony at the memorial monument at Shannon's Cross, which gets underway at 2pm.
Road closures are in place from 1 to 3pm to facilitate people attending the service.
Church bells will ring out in Loughglynn, Fairymount, Ballaghadereen, Castlerea and Knock at 2.20pm - the time the incident happened 40 years ago today.
