The community of Islandeady, outside Castlebar, is in mourning following the death of Delia Collins (nee McDermott) one of Ireland’s oldest residents.
Delia, who lived with her daughter, Mary and family in the townland of Leitir, Islandeady, celebrated her 106th birthday last December.
She was a great lover of music throughout her life, especially country and western, and liked to sing at family gatherings.
Born in Chester, U.K. on December 10, 1913, Delia moved to Islandeady and married and had four children.
She attributed her long life to hard farm work, love of music and the odd glass of Bailey’s and the company of friends and neighbours.
Her funeral arrangements are not yet available
