35 HSE Community Service workers across the Sligo-Leitrim area completed over two ‘virtual tours’ of the Irish coastline for local charities.
Throughout the month of May frontline staff in the Sligo area stayed within their 2km radius and cumulatively walked in excess of 3,700kms.
So far they have completed more than two trips around the Irish coastline and the group of multidisciplinary professionals have continued their walks as restrictions eased.
The three local communities to benefit from the fundraising efforts are the North West Hospice, DVAS and North West Stop Suicide and the GO Fund Me page is still open for donations.
Tara Cawley is a speech and language therapist from Castleconnor and was one of the organisers behind the initiative.
She told Midwest News that the idea behind the ‘virtual tour’ was to keep the healthcare team together while remaining physically apart.
