Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a truck and a car that occurred on Saturday morning on the N5 at Belleek, in the Turlough area of Castlebar.
The driver of the car, a man in his 70s died in hospital yesterday.
He has been named as Christopher (Chris) Culkeen of 32 McHale Road, Castlebar and formerly of Greenwood, Ballyhaunis.
Mr Culkeen was well known in the community. He was very involved in football and the Mayo and District Motor Sports Club. He worked for many years as a long distance truck driver.
Removal from his home in McHale Road will take place on Wednesday morning to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar for Funeral Mass at 11am and afterwards to Shannon Crematorium via McHale Road, arriving for private committal service at 2.30pm.
Due to the current regulations the Funeral Mass and Cremation will be private to family only.
Gardaí in Castlebar are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. They are also appealing for any road users travelling in the area at the time who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) to make the footage available to Gardaí.
