The funeral of Ben Duffy, the five-year old who drowned in a dinghy accident on Lough Mask, earlier this week has taken place today.
Grieving members of the community stood in silent tribute as the remains were brought from the home of his grandparents -Sean and Celia Duffy – at Aughagower to Tourmakeady Church.
Fr. John Kenny, the main celebrant of the funeral Mass, told mourners that Ben had been a wonderful gift to his family for five years, a gift that had been taken back by God too soon.
Chief mourners at the funeral were Ben’s parents, Alan and Tracy, his siblings, Matthew, Daniel, Darcy and Dolan and his grandparents as well as his uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
The numbers attending the funeral were restricted due to Covid-19 regulations.
Following Requiem Mass at midday, Ben was laid to rest in Aughagower Cemetery.
