As protests continue across the United States over the death of George Floyd, a public vigil will take place in Castlebar this Saturday, organised by the Mayo branch of United Against Racism.
George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died while being restrained by police last week in Minneapolis. An independent autopsy showed he died from asphixiation while in custody.
The organisers of Saturday's vigil in Castlebar, which takes place on the Mall at 3pm, say they support the continued protests of American people of colour, as they fight for safety and respect for their lives.
Only those living within 5km of the Mall in Castlebar should attend, while maintaining social distancing, and are asked to wear face masks.
