A teenager from Co Galway has made over 1,000 masks and has donated them, often anonymously to members of her local community, healthcare professionals and even the Taoiseach.

13-year old Lauren O’Grady has been making her colourful facemasks at home on her sewing machine over the past few weeks.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar wrote to the young woman to thank her for his personalised mask calling her one of the current situations ‘superheroes’.

The Barna girl has also sent masks to Professor Luke O’Neill of Trinity College and Galway musician Sharon Shannon and Uachtaran na HEireann Michael D. Higgins.

Her mother Ellie O’Grady, of O’Grady’s on the Pier, says Lauren gets a kick out of posting the masks to people in need of them during lockdown.
