The body of a woman was recovered from the sea on Achill Island yesterday evening.
The woman, who was in her forties, went missing while walking in the Dooagh area yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
Her name has not been released by gardai, but it’s understood she is from the Achill area.
A major air and sea search was mounted by Achill Island Coast Guard, R118 rescue helicopter, Achill Island lifeboat, gardai and members of the local community.
The remains were removed last night to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post mortem examination will be held later today (Friday).
